Tabaski

Most of us in the West would be familiar with the story of Abraham's sacrifice of his son Isaac in the book of Genesis. God saw Abraham's faith, an angel stopped his hand, and instead he sacrificed a ram that he saw caught in the thorns.

The Muslims have a similar story, but in their version the son was Ishmael rather than the son of promise, Isaac. In commemoration of this event, they have a time each year to sacrifice a ram or a goat. It is called Tabaski, and is set to occur here soon. Apparently the dates can vary from place to place, but for sure it is nearly upon us, as the penned-up goats and sheep are in evidence everywhere.
Sheep next to compound we pass each day.
These sheep have markings as to owner and those allocated for sacrifice.

An outside pen - not sure if this man is a shepherd or a guard.
